A Stylish Spot on Shelter Island…
It’s SUMMER!!! Time to escape the city rush and head to a place of calm – somewhere to relax and unwind. Perhaps stroll on the beach, take a dip in the ocean, enjoy some wine-tasting and good local cuisine. I have always loved weekend visits to the Hamptons for parties and polo, beaches and BBQs and lobster rolls and in the last few years I have discovered the North Fork and the superb selection of vineyards there. Shelter Island then could not be a more perfect location for a summer escape as it is slap-bang in the middle of the ‘forks’ so you are just a few minutes ferry ride from Sag Harbor on one side and then less than five minutes by ferry from Greenport. It is a charming place not yet spoiled by tourism, shopping malls and day-trippers and when you are on Shelter Island the locals make you feel very at home.
That’s why a new boutique B&B on Shelter Island is the ideal place to stay, it feels like a home away from home. Seven on Shelter is cosy, intimate and friendly yet stylish, chic and luxurious, it has just a few rooms – each sunny and spacious with large windows, huge sumptuous beds & sleek modern en suite bathrooms. The dining room is also sunny and inviting with fabulous contemporary art works to add a pop of color and interest and I loved sipping locally-bought wine from the North Fork on the sun-dappled porch!
Located just a few minutes walk from Sunset Beach, Seven on Shelter could not be better-situated and there are also bikes to get around the island. From the dazzling ocean views to the charming wooded areas Shelter Island is idyllic and with local restaurants such as the Vine Street Cafe and Sunset Beach on your doorstep there is not much need to leave the island – although if you do want to get to the Hamptons or North Fork they are very easily accessible by ferry. The only problem is that you will not want to leave after just a weekend – so you had best book some time out of your busy schedule and take a week! Go on – you deserve it! Although book fast as I have a feeling Seven on Shelter is going to have a busy summer!
