Sipping Rosé in a Barn in the North Fork…

Relax in the sunshine with some tasty wines in the North Fork

One of my favourite weekends last summer was spent at a friend’s charming cottage in the North Fork. The North Fork is literally the north fork of Long Island, the south fork being the Hamptons. It is just a few hours drive from New York City and a perfect weekend escape during the hot summer months in the city. The North Fork is as beautiful and inviting as the Hamptons but with a more relaxed ambience – great seafood spots, pretty Love Lane, peaceful coves perfect for swimming or paddle-boarding and quaint cottages lined along quiet wooded lanes. The sheltered and tranquil roads here are perfect for hopping on a bike and exploring the wonderful selection of vineyards in this region. One of my favourite spots was the alluring and enchanting tasting barn and garden of Croteaux Vineyards where they grow and harvest fruit specifically for the purpose of making rosé wines based on the style of rosé in the South of the France. The garden overlooks the vast vineyards and it is the perfect environment for tasting this delicious selection of wines and they have a cosy and stylish barn area too for cooler days. TravelBella made herself at home in one of the hammocks and happily spent a few hours sipping the delicious fruity wines on offer, although make sure your bike has a basket big enough to transport your wines back to base – and that you don’t drink too much wine and topple off your bike en route home!
