Escaping the Freeze to a Caribbean Island Paradise…

The Perfect Escape...

The Perfect Escape…

If you have had enough of the big freeze and the January blues are starting to creep in, then head to the sunny shores of the Caribbean for the feeling of fine white sand between your toes, the embrace of the warm azul waters of the Caribbean Sea and plenty of rum to forget that you are supposed to be detoxing this month! With an abundance of islands to choose from, TravelBella was fortunate enough to recently spend time in St Maarten-St Martin (depending on whether you are on the Dutch or French side). This popular island is a direct flight from NYC, and in just over 4 hours you can go from a snow storm & hot chocolate to sunbathing & Piña Colada! Despite idyllic beaches and bays that feel more like baths, TravelBella wanted even more of an escape and spent a blissful day at Pinel Island. Located just a 10-minute boat ride from the north of the island on scheduled ‘ferries’ that run every 30 mins between 10am and 5pm (approx. $10 round-trip), this island is apparently a secret of the local people and you can see why when you pull up to the white sandy bay where the water is as still as glass. Grab a sun lounger with a view to die for (around $20 for 2 with umbrella) and have lunch with your toes dipping in the inviting warm waters as you eat a freshly-picked lobster at the fantastic Le Karibuni Restaurant and enjoy a bottle of rosé – it’s perfect, in fact too perfect. You have to pinch yourself to believe you are really there it is that beautiful and that idyllic!
