Blue Skies and a Cool Vibe in Manhattan…

If you are visiting New York then you should plan to spend some time in the meatpacking district in downtown Manhattan. Not quite as cutting-edge as it was in the late 90s/early 2000s it has matured into a bustling part of town yet still retains a cool vibe and is good fun for people-watching, eating, drinking and shopping! The area around 9th Ave / West 12th Street is abundant with cool bars and restaurants such as Pastis (a celebrity hot-spot, famed from it’s appearance in Sex & the City and one of renowned NY restauranteur’s Keith McNally’s original openings), also check out the roof bar at the Gansevoort Hotel for the views across the city and the Hudson River and if you are lucky enough to get into Soho House the pool scene there is great for a summer’s day and the brunch is aptly decribed as a ‘feast’… enjoy a stroll over to the Standard Hotel where you can party until the early hours in the Boom Boom Room or have a beer in the street-level biergarten, and there is even a skating rink in the winter months! Take in the vibe from the Highline which is a park created over the old rail tracks elevated over the city with fantastic views and finish the day with cocktails at the Spotted Pig just a few minutes walk away on Greenwich Street and West 11th, before you prepare to go back to the meatpacking for a 2nd day as you realise there is so much to do you can’t possibly squueze it into just one day! Alternatively you will find obe of the cool clubs tucked away and party right on through! It is New York City after all, the city that never sleeps…
