Dancing Fairies in Giant Snow Globes in Highgate…

Christmas comes early in Highgate!

Christmas comes early in Highgate!

Tucked away off Hampstead Heath in a leafy suburb of North London is the charming village of Highgate. Steeped in history, reflected by the numerous blue plaques (indicating where celebrated figures of years past were born, lived or died) dotted around the pretty chocolate box houses that line the main square and sleepy roads, Highgate is a quintessential English village in the heart of London. Whether you stop by one of the many pubs for a pint or a bite to eat, or picnic on the sprawling Heath after a swim in one of the ponds, you can be sure there is always something to see and do in Highgate all year round. Summers see theatre in the grounds of the grand Lauderdale House, picnics in one of the many parks and the Summer Festival and this weekend saw the start of a number of Festive activities to make sure your Christmas Season is a jolly one! The Highgate Christmas Festival took place this past Saturday in Pond Square, the heart of Highgate life, and saw Sugar Plum Fairies dancing in a giant snow globe, reindeers being looked after by some suspiciously large elves, local school children living out their Glee fantasies and star of the screens, Damian Lewis, turning on the Christmas Lights! It was a fun, festive event that saw money being raised for charity and local business selling seasonal produce (from sumptuous hot chocolate to an enticing Hog Roast) and it was a fantastic afternoon for everyone! Whether you live in London or are visiting this great city be sure to research local events as you not only get the best of what there is on offer but you can engage in some community spirit – and what could be more jolly than that!
