Cream Tea on a boat in Devon

TravelBella just spent a wonderful weekend in beautiful Devon. The English countryside and coastline really is stunning and when the weather is as good as it has been recently you forget that you are on this little island in the North Sea but with turquoise seas and long stretches of sandy beach you could be fooled into thinking you were on the Mediterranean in this part of the country! Devon is an area of outstanding beauty, the rolling green hills, quaint villages and stretches of water are unsurpassed and being just a few hours drive or train ride from London it makes for a fantastic weekend break! We spent an hour on Saturday morning aboard the Picnic Boat, an enchanting idea that merges the classic Devonshire cream tea with the awe-inspiring setting of Dartmouth – a pretty village perched on the edge of an estuary lined with colourful houses and plenty of seafood. Devonshire crab is renowned across the world and you are spoiled for choice with places to indulge. Devon is also famous for it’s cream teas so the Picnic Boat is the ideal venue to enjoy this local treat and take in the stunning vistas from the bay. We enjoyed an hour-long cruise along with tea, delicious home-made scones (with jam and plenty of local clotted-cream) and a relaxing local tour courtesy of our captain who mixed just the right amount of hospitality with allowing us to take in our peaceful surroundings. With longer cruises and various dining options available the Picnic Boat is a wonderful treat for anyone – let’s just hope you get the gorgeous weather too!
