Be entertained Mad Men-style at The Crazy Coqs!

A Cabaret in the heart of Piccadilly Circus? Yes it is true, the heart of London has had a makeover in the last few years. Yes the overseas football fans still gather at Eros chanting and waving their flags, and there are still the drunken revellers spilling out from Leicester Square at night, but the renowned London restaurant duo – Chris Corbin and Jeremy King – have brought a touch of class to this part of town and it is quickly becoming the place to be! Firstly they brought us the grandiose Brasserie Zédel and then making the most of the expansive underground space launched the instant-classic cocktail lounge – Bar Américain. This was shortly followed by The Crazy Coqs. The magnificent setting for this intimate and thrilling Cabaret is colour-schemed in red, black and white in an exquisite art-deco style that oozes sophisticated glamour. As you are escorted to your table, complete with retro-style lamp, you can’t help but think that you have stepped back in time to the era of Mad Men and Goodfellas, and despite the crowd not being full of gangsters with their glamourous molls or handsome brooding men with secret pasts (maybe there are some of these!), you are set for a show like no other! TravelBella has now been on a couple of occasions – treating a recently laid-off friend to a night of Doris Day (what could be more uplifting!) and last night a romantic night with the husband where we were serenaded by the superb Jean Brassard who sung Yves Montand classics accompanied by a superb band (piano, double bass and drums) as he walked us through the great French entertainers’ life with funny and touching stories. As you sit there sipping your champagne (mine) or Rob Roy (his) you feel like you are in a bygone era of moonlight and romance where lovers were entertained by singers with a story and passion, drinks were made with effort and detail and men treated you like a lady – fortunately all those things were true for me last night at The Crazy Coqs! I am a lucky lady!
