Enjoying a Venetian gondola ride in Vegas…

Take a gondola ride in Venice when in Vegas!

Las Vegas was never my preferred choice of travel destination but I was pleasantly surprised and had a wonderful time in this lively and entertaining city in the heart of the Nevada desert. Of course I had heard about the ‘Paris’ and ‘Venice’ of Vegas and expected laughable tacky imitations of these beautiful cities, however it was a lot more than that and instead these are themes of hotels with replicas of some of the well-known landmarks along with restaurants, cafes and bars of Paris or Venice, it is impressive to the eye and tastefully done. The ‘Paris’ and ‘Vanice’ are definitely a little ‘Disney’ in style but these are great attractions, and part of the larger than life and unusual experience that is Las Vegas! The Venetian is a stunning hotel and inside is the renowned interior with it’s replica of St Mark’s Square complete with a sky that goes from dawn until dusk so that even inside this immense hotel it feels like you could be outside, except of course there is no actual sunshine – it’s a good break from the scorching desert sunshine if it gets too much! We enjoyed lunch ‘in Venice’ with some opera singers to entertain us and then took a gondala ride. As cheesy as it sounds it was really enjoyable being serenaded as we took in the sights of the surrounding buildings, it was not exactly romantic but it was part of a superb Vegas experience along with red velvet pancakes covered in chocolate sauce for breakfast in one of the hotel’s restaurants. You have to take Vegas for what it is – a fun-fuelled, attraction-based city that will entertain everyone – and there really is not quite anywhere else like it!
