Buy delicious Brazilian Beauty treats at Granado

When travelling I love to visit local pharmacies and pick up products that you would not find back home, this ranges from cheap face masks from Tokyo (Kracie Q10 are the best), BB Cream from the Face Shop in Singapore and NUXE Body Oil from the phamacies of Paris. When I was in Rio I heard about a local pharmacy that has been around for over 150 years and of course I had to find it! It was a somewhat arduous trek with an equally obsessed girlfriend but we found it eventually and it was worth the effort. We had a pleasant stroll from the Fasano Hotel near Ipanema along the the Rua Visconde de Pirajá, which is lined with shops and cafes, and eventually found our way to the vintage-style apothecary where the bright assortment of products are discussed with you by assistants in white lab coats, perhaps a little clinical to be discussing the famous ‘Pink’ range (using rice oil, passion fruit and acai) that looks like it’s come from Grandma’s medicine cabinet! The kitsch packaging and use of Brazilian natural products gives the Granado range an appeal – not just for yourself but as gifts for friends and family. We left the store laden with products and my particular choice picks were the açaí soaps and the range made with Castanha do Brasil (a nut from the Amazon) known for it’s softening qualities which they have put into everything from shampoos to moisturisers. Take time to find the Granado Pharmácias for a taste of nostalgia as well as picking up some treats for yourself – and for others if you can bear to part with them!
