Poolside Blues in Cartagena…

Be passionate about the pool at La Passion, Cartagena

One of the many things that I love about Cartagena, is the combination of culture, tradition, style and people. This fascinating Columbian city is such a melting pot – it is South America meets the Caribbean with a Cuban twist and a side of Spanish history! The city is vast and spread out but most tourists head to the historical and colourful ‘Centro Historico’ located within the ancient city walls of what was the first Spanish settlement many centuries ago. The narrow streets, interesting architecture and charming hotels and posadas are what draws people to this UNESCO World Heritage Site and perhaps one of the most alluring hotels here is La Passion. This boutique hotel is hidden away on one of the winding streets that make up the old city, and from the outside you would not know that a beautifully decorated and detail-orientated hotel existed inside what was once an 18th Century Palace. There are hammocks and plants in the courtyard and the rooms are all uniquely decorated, it feels like you are staying as a guest in someone’s home. There is a roof terrace for eating al fresco in the hot Columbian sunshine and when it gets too much you can take a cool dip in the beautiful and stylish pool. If all of this relaxation gets too much then there are boats to hire for exploring the breathtaking Rosario Islands where you can sleep in a hammock on the beach for a few days safe in the knowledge that you have a beautiful home to come back to at La Passion.
