Strolling around beautiful 17th century Gardens in Tokyo…

Beautiful Blossom at the Hamarikyu Gardens in Tokyo

When in Tokyo I love to take a break from the frantic but incredible city life and visit the Hamarikyu Gardens in Shimbashi – an oasis of calm in the urban jungle. This beautiful ancient park on the edge of Tokyo Bay is my haven when the fast-paced city buzz gets too much and I stumbled upon the gardens by chance once day during an early-morning run and now make sure I take some time to visit every time I am in Tokyo. The Peony Garden is truly spectacular and in the Spring you can walk through this scented sea of colour. The shimmering ponds surrounded by willow trees are incredibly peaceful and if you hit the gardens at the right time of year the blossom is in full bloom and the scene is simply breath-taking. Visit the teahouse in the gardens where you can partake in a traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony and afterwards hop on a river cruise from the grounds and enjoy the city from a different vantage point until you reach Akasuka, another of TravelBella’s hot spots in Tokyo, and stop by for some shopping in the market and a visit to the impressive Sensō-ji Temple.
